Support for Students and Families Experiencing Homelessness

The Montessori Elementary & Middle School (TMEMS) is committed to supporting students and families experiencing housing instability, in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, Title X, Part C of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). This federal law ensures that children and youth experiencing homelessness have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education as their peers, regardless of their current living situation.Under the McKinney-Vento Act, TMEMS works to remove barriers to enrollment, attendance, and academic success. Students who are living in shelters, motels, cars, campgrounds, or temporarily sharing housing with others due to loss of housing or financial hardship are eligible for services and support to ensure educational stability.

For more information about your rights under the McKinney-Vento Act, please refer to Section VII.10 of the TMEMS Parent-Student Handbook and Governing Council Policies 334 and 335.

If your family is in need of support or assistance, please contact our TMEMS Social Worker at 505-796-0149. We are here to help.
